National Instruments introduced the NI Vision Development Module 2012. The LabVIEW module helps engineers develop and deploy machine vision applications. The Vision Development Module features hundreds of functions for acquiring images from a multitude of cameras and for processing images by enhancing them, checking for presence, locating features, identifying objects, and measuring parts. The cost of the NI Vision Development Module 2012 starts at $3,699 (€3,549; ¥449,000).
Verisurf Software rolled out version six of the Verisurf X metrology software. The latest release of Verisurf X includes features that enhance in-process, portable inspection, tool building, CATIA interoperability, and 3D scanning and reverse engineering. Verisurf X6 supports 64-bit Windows 7 and increases productivity for engineers working with very large files.

Mentor Graphics introduced a 1D-3D general-purpose software solution that combines 1D and 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The solution is based on 3D FloEFD Concurrent CFD and 1D Flowmaster, which was recently acquired by Mentor Graphics. The Mentor Graphics 1D-3D product line will be available in the second half of this year.
Synopsys launched version 7.3 of their LightTools illumination design and analysis software. LightTools 7.3 includes software enhancements to help designers jumpstart, analyze, optimize and manage illumination designs. The tool includes a variety of new illumination design features in areas such as application-specific design, color quality analysis, LED phosphor modeling, and design management and performance. LightTools v7.3 is available now.
Mentor Graphics introduced a new Flowmaster tool for system level thermo-fluid simulation. The Flowmaster Power and Energy software tool features a two-phase solution that models the phase change from liquid to vapor for steam generation or from vapor to liquid when steam is consumed. The new Flowmaster tool will be available this summer and will support Windows 7 64-bit and Enterprise deployment. The product is ideal for the power generation applications.
Texas Instruments introduced the ULP (Ultra-Low Power) Advisor software code analysis tool. The TI ULP Advisor tool provides a static code analyzer that flags software code and offers ultra-low-power tips and tricks to help developers understand where to improve code, line by line. This results in milliamps and nanoamps saved in designs for ultimate low-power performance. ULP Advisor software is available now. It is included in the latest install of Code Composer Studio IDE version 5.2.
Sigrity launched their XcitePI IO Interconnect Model Extraction and Assessment software. The tool provides accurate system-level analysis of high-speed channels and buses by generating precise chip IO power/ground and signal interconnect models. XcitePI IO Interconnect Model Extraction is available on Windows and Linux platforms. Prices start at $108,000 for a 3-year license. The new tool is part of Sigrity’s XcitePI chip-level analysis family that supports both pre- and post-layout design improvement.
Microchip Technology introduced the MPLAB XC, which is a simplified line of C compilers. The MPLAB XC8, XC16 and XC32 compilers offer reduced complexity for 8, 16 and 32-bit designers. They are available in three cost-effective optimization levels — Free, Standard and Pro. The Pro editions can be evaluated for free for 60 days. The MPLAB XC8 and MPLAB XC32 compilers are available now. The MPLAB XC16 compiler will be available in April. The discounted suite of all three compilers will be available in May. Prices for this new XC line have been reduced up to 60%, and the Pro editions is priced at $995.
