Microchip Technology introduced the MPLAB XC, which is a simplified line of C compilers. The MPLAB XC8, XC16 and XC32 compilers offer reduced complexity for 8, 16 and 32-bit designers. They are available in three cost-effective optimization levels — Free, Standard and Pro. The Pro editions can be evaluated for free for 60 days. The MPLAB XC8 and MPLAB XC32 compilers are available now. The MPLAB XC16 compiler will be available in April. The discounted suite of all three compilers will be available in May. Prices for this new XC line have been reduced up to 60%, and the Pro editions is priced at $995.
Microchip Technology introduced the MPLAB X IDE for the development of embedded applications using their PIC microcontrollers and dsPIC digital signal controllers. With MPLAB X IDE, engineers can manage multiple projects and tools with simultaneous debugging, an advanced editor, visual call graphs and code completion. The open-source integrated development environment supports Linux, Mac OS and Windows operating systems. MPLAB X IDE beta is available now for free download.
The LDRA tool suite has integrated with Microchip Technology’s MPLAB PIC18, PIC24, and dsPIC32/33 tool chains. The LDRA tool suite integration enables developers to use very low-cost, low-power PIC processors in DO-178B qualified environments. Even though Microchip Technology follows a non-ANSI standard C implementation, LDRA is able to analyze and run code on the target and extract the results to create reports identical to those from a more fully featured development environment.
