Avnet Embedded and Intel will hold an online training class on the new Intel Xeon E5 family of processors. The in-depth technical training session will cover the Intel Xeon processor E5-2600/2400 families. The course will include a platform overview and technical highlights of each processor. The web-based training session will illustrate ways that Intel products and Avnet’s solutions-based value-add expertise work together to support any design requirement.
The 49th Design Automation Conference includes keynote speakers from ARM, IBM, Intel and the National Tsing Hua University. DAC 2012 will feature at least 60 technical sessions on recent developments and trends, management practices and new products, methodologies and technologies. This year’s conference will take place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, from June 3-7, 2012. ASSET InterTech announced new tools to structurally verify, functionally test, analyze performance margins and debug boards based on the Intel microarchitecture codenamed Haswell. ScanWorks board bring-up will be available in the second quarter of this year. Pricing for a base level ScanWorks platform for embedded instruments starts at $12,000.
Kontron announced their machine-to-machine (M2M) Smart Services Developer Kit, which was co-developed with Intel. The Kontron M2M kit enables engineers to develop and test application’s connectivity and performance, then quickly deploy. The new M2M Developer Kit houses a COM Express compatible Kontron nanoETXexpress-TT COM (Intel Atom processor E640 1 GHz) and other Kontron M2M System boards in a 67mm x 100mm x 27mm chassis. The kit features an external USB port, 4 gigabyte (GB) internal MicroSD card, built-in accelerometer, dual HDMI and HD audio support, and an integrated 802.15.4 WPAN transceiver. The Kontron M2M Developer Kit will be available worldwide in early Q3.
AXISLib-AVX, from GE Intelligent Platforms, is a set of DSP and math libraries. AXISLib-AVX is a VSIPL Core 1.0 library with over 600 high performance digital signal processing and vector mathematical functions. It is ideal for real-time embedded signal processing applications like ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance). AXISLib-AVX can operate in a standalone mode or as an integral software module within the AXIS Advanced Multiprocessor Integrates Software environment.
ASSET announced the ScanWorks High-Speed IO (HSIO) Toolkit for PC Client, which is a web-based tool for validating and debugging circuit board designs targeting future 22nm based Intel Core processors for the desktop and mobile applications. ScanWorks HSIO Toolkit includes tools that provide detailed information on DDR3, PCI-Express Graphics (PEG), and Direct Media Interface (DMI) buses. The ScanWorks HSIO Toolkit for PC Client is available now. A 90-day license costs $1,995.
LucidLogix recently introduced Virtu, which is a Lucid GPU virtualization software. Virtu is designed for Intel Sandy Bridge platforms. Lucid Virtu helps computers dynamically balance the power-efficient, built-in media features of Sandy Bridge processor graphics with the high-end, DirectX 11 3D performance features of discrete GPUs, while significantly reducing the power drain of traditional entertainment desktops. The beta version of Lucid will be available in January 2011. The demo version of Lucid GPU virtualization software is available now for evaluation.
According to International Data Corporation (IDC), worldwide PC microprocessor unit shipments and revenues in the third calendar quarter of 2010 (3Q10) increased 2.1% and 2.5%, respectively, compared to 2Q10. Worldwide PC microprocessor unit shipments and revenues in the third calendar quarter of 2010 (3Q10) increased 8.6% and 24.1%, respectively, compared to the third quarter of 2009. The findings were published in IDC’s latest PC processor study, Worldwide PC Microprocessor 3Q10 Vendor Shares.
Macraigor Systems’ On-Chip Debug Technology (OCDemon) now supports the Intel Atom x86 processor. Macraigor’s JTAG interface devices are immediately available for use with the Intel Atom based designs as well as other Intel family devices including the XScale family of processors. OCDemon for the Intel Atom is available immediately starting at $250 USD. The port of the GNU Tools Suite and Eclipse Ganymede/Galileo platform is being offered at no charge.
