Synopsys DesignWare STAR ECC IP

Synopsys’ DesignWare STAR Memory System product family now features Self-Test and Repair Error Correcting Codes. The DesignWare STAR ECC IP is a configurable IP solution that enables designers to achieve a higher level of protection against transient errors compared to the classic ECC approach and deliver a more reliable product to the market. The DesignWare STAR ECC IP is designed to provide optimal performance of partial word writes and improved error detection/correction capability in multi-bit upsets and random bit errors.

MathWorks Polyspace Embedded Software Verification Tools

MathWorks has updated their Polyspace embedded code verification tools. Polyspace code verifiers detect and prove the absence of overflow, divide-by-zero, out-of-bounds array access, and other run-time errors in source code. Polyspace features improved metrics web dashboard, automated scheduling of verification jobs, e-mail notification and increased code metric support. The MathWorks tools help engineers to select and track embedded software quality metrics and thresholds. Polyspace is ideal for automotive, aerospace, defense, industrial automation, and machinery applications.

Wind River Linux 4

Wind River launched version four of their commercial embedded Linux platform. Wind River Linux 4 is based on the Linux 2.6.34+ kernel and GCC 4.4, EGLIBC 2.11 and GDB 7 toolchains. Wind River Linux 4 supports ARM, Intel, MIPS and Power architectures. Wind River Linux 4 will also be compliant with the forthcoming Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) 5.0 standards for high availability and serviceability and Linux Standard Base (LSB) 4.0 certification requirements for application portability. Wind River Linux 4 will be available worldwide later this month.

Renesas RX Microcontroller Design Contest

Renesas Electronics recently announced their RX Design Contest. The Renesas RX Design Contest is an opportunity for embedded engineers to showcase their skills in any type of design using an RX MCU. One thousand RX62N Renesas Demonstration Kits (RDKs) will be available to contestants for free. The use of the RDK is encouraged, but not required. The top prize is $5000 and there are over $110,000 in cash and prizes. The deadline to enter the Renesas RX Design Contest is March 4, 2011.

Imec Develops Narrow Pitch Interconnects

Imec created the first electrically functional copper lines embedded into silicon oxide using a spacer-defined double patterning approach. According to imec, this is a major step towards 20nm half pitch interconnects. Spacer-defined (or self-aligned) double patterning has recently gained interest as the patterning technique for future FLASH memory devices. Memory vendors will benefit from this research.

Mentor Embedded Linux Development Platform

Mentor Embedded launched their first commercial Linux platform, Mentor Embedded Linux. The RTOS is a result of Mentor Graphics’ acquisition of Embedded Alley, the alliance between Freescale Semiconductor and Mentor Graphics, and a similar alliance with NetLogic Microsystems. Mentor Embedded Linux enables developers to design customized applications, fully compatible with open source packages, with no vendor lock-in and greater reliability while accelerating overall design development time. The platform provides comprehensive open source Linux software, tools, and maintenance and support.

Zilog Development Studio II for Programming Embedded SoC

Zilog rolled out the enhanced Zilog Development Studio II (ZDS II) toolset for programming SoC solutions leveraging Zilog microprocessors. The ZDS II is a royalty-free, high-end toolset that runs on Windows 98SE/2000/XP/Vista-32 platforms and offers source code editing, debugging and program management all easily accessible from a singly fully-feature integrated development environment. The new Project Wizard is designed so that both beginning and advanced users can sit down and quickly develop a new code project faster than ever before. The ZDS II is available now for free download.
