Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas is offering a series of data converters seminars. The Data Converter SpeedWay Design Workshop will provide engineers with a methodology to navigate the entire data converter ecosystem and realize their full performance. Special attention is paid to understanding the factors needed to consider when selecting an appropriate converter for an application. The seminars will be taught by technical specialists from Avnet and Texas Instruments (TI). The events will place in five cities within the next 30 days.

  • Data converter basics and architecture
    Overview of three popular ADC topologies: delta-sigma, SAR, and pipeline ADC. Which topologies are suitable for use in which real-world applications and why. Device selection, what are the questions used to quickly narrow down which component to use.

  • Translating ADC specifications to system requirements
    Covers how to make ADC product selection more obvious from information presented in block diagrams and through the system discovery process.

  • Tradeoffs and design considerations for microcontrollers
    MCU integrated data converter versus an external data converter. Tradeoffs and design considerations. Learn to decipher when an internal data converter is enough.

  • Precision data converters from TI
    An overview of TI’s portfolio of SAR and delta-sigma ADCs, and digital-to-analog converters (DACs). Full A-D/D-A portfolio and process technologies review. Leading devices and what markets they play in.

  • Using TI’s ADCPro to help solve data converter design problems
    Identifying the appropriate test equipment for your EVM and introduce basic ADC evaluation test methods. Will show how ADCPro simplifies the tasks of collecting and analyzing ADC data.

  • Which is better: A 12-bit SAR ADC plus a PGA or a 16-bit converter?
    Discussion on the trade-offs between a 12-bit SAR plus a multiplexed PGA, 16-bit multiplexed SAR, and a 16-bit multiplexed delta sigma converter in a variety of applications. Examines options for this difficult design decision with an arsenal of strategies.
