National Instruments Embedded Virtualization Webcast Series

National Instruments introduced their Embedded Virtualization Webcast Series. The webinars from NI and Intel focus on virtualization technology — from introductory information and business benefits, to key underlying technologies and implementation details. The online seminars will help engineers, scientists, and embedded designers understand virtualization, select a software solution, and implement that solution quickly. Sessions are free of charge, and audience members can ask questions live.

The webcast series consists of four sessions, beginning on Tuesday, December 8, at noon and 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time with sessions following Wednesday, December 9, and Thursday, December 10, at noon Central Standard Time. The sessions cover the business case for embedded virtualization, choosing embedded virtualization software, understanding how Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel-VT) makes virtualization possible, and configuring and using a virtualized system.

Making the Business Case and Choosing Software for Embedded Virtualization
Tuesday, December 8, 2009
Noon-1:00 p.m. CST
Listen to Jim St. Leger of Intel Corp explain virtualization and how it helps engineers, scientists, and embedded designers do more with multicore hardware. Also learn how virtualization can be used to reduce costs, isolate operating systems, and provide real-time processing alongside general-purpose OS services. Next, listen to Gerardo Garcia, group manager of industrial software marketing at National Instruments, explain important considerations for selecting virtualization software including I/O access, performance, and more.

Exploring How Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel-VT) Enables Virtualization
Wednesday, December 9, 2009
Noon-1:00 p.m. CST
Learn about the basics of Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel-VT) and how it helps make virtualization possible. Walk through a step-by-step explanation of how and when hypervisor software is called with Amit Aneja of Intel Corp, and discover how Intel-VT helps maximize performance in virtualized systems.

Hands-On: Configuring and Using a Virtualized System
Thursday, December 10, 2009
Noon-1:00 p.m. CST
Listen to Casey Weltzin, product manager for virtualization at National Instruments, as he outlines the main steps that designers should expect when incorporating virtualization, including partitioning hardware resources, configuring interrupt assignments, booting into a hypervisor, and more. Watch several demos using NI Real-Time Hypervisor software to run a real-time OS and general-purpose OS side-by-side on the same computing hardware.
