$10,000 MSP430 Ultra-Low Power Design Challenge

Texas Instruments announced the MSP430 microcontroller (MCU) Ultra-Low Power Design Challenge. The contest takes place October 19, 2009 to January 19, 2010. Contestants are encouraged to show “how low they can go” by submitting video demonstrations ranging from practical everyday solutions to application-specific design concepts using the world’s lowest-power MSP430 MCUs and development tools. More than $10,000 in cash and awards will be dispersed. No purchase or entry fee required.

  • First Prize – $4,050 Value
$3,500 cash, plus one (1) copy of Code Composer Studio v4 ($500 value) and one (1) MSP430 Development Tool ($50 value)
  • Second Prize – $2,550 Value
$2,000 cash, plus one (1) copy of Code Composer Studio v4 ($500 value) and one (1) MSP430 Development Tool ($50 value)
  • Third Prize – $1,550 Value
$1,000 cash, plus one (1) copy of Code Composer Studio v4 ($500 value) and one (1) MSP430 Development Tool ($50 value)
  • Weekly Prizes will be awarded based on random drawings from among all registrants
  • MSP430 Development Tool ($50 value) – 37 to be given away, limit one per registered entrant

An entrant may submit multiple designs. All design entries must be implemented using a device from the TI MSP430 family of microcontrollers from these generations: MSP430x1xx, MSP430F2xx, MSP430x4xx, MSP430F5xx, CC430Fxxxx.

A panel of three judges will rate each entry on innovation and the best use of on-chip MSP430 MCU features to determine first, second, and third place winners. Each will be judged equally on creativity, power efficiency, and technical complexity. Winners will be announced on or before January 29, 2010.

The contest is sponsored by Avnet Electronics Marketing.
