EDA Industry – Second Quarter 2008

The EDA Consortium (EDAC) Market Statistics Service (MSS) recently released the latest figures for the electronic design automation (EDA) industry. According to EDAC, revenue for Q2 2008 declined 3.7% to $1357.4 million, compared to $1408.8 million in Q2 2007. However, employment rose 7% to 28,004 professionals in Q2 2008, compare to 26,164 employed in Q2 2007.

  • Computer Aided Engineering (CAE)
    $524.7 million, 2.6% decrease over the same period in 2007
    The four quarter moving average CAE growth rate was positive at 6.8%

  • IC Physical Design & Verification
    $317.1 million, 20.2% decrease compared to Q2 2007
    The four quarter moving average growth rate declined 2.6%

  • Printed Circuit Board and Multi-Chip Module (PCB & MCM)
    $141.6 million, 19.3% increase over Q2 2007
    The four quarter moving average growth rate showed a 1% decrease

  • Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP)
    $264.9 million, 1.6 percent decrease over Q2 2007
    The four quarter moving average growth rate was slightly down at 0.8%

  • Services
    $109 million, up 28.5% from Q2 2007
    The four quarter moving average growth rate was up 10.7%

    $585 million, 13.3% decrease compared to Q2 2007
    The four quarter moving average growth rate was down 6.9%

  • Western Europe
    $273.4 million, 10.5% increase compared to Q2 2007
    The four quarter moving average growth was up 11.6%

    $281.8 million, 13.7% increase compared to Q2 2007
    The four quarter moving average increase was 13.1%

  • Rest-of-World (ROW)
    $217.1 million, 9% decrease compared to the same quarter in 2007
    The four quarter moving average growth was positive at 6.7%
