Silicon Integration Initiative to Host Integrated Design Systems Workshop
The Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) announced they will host the Integrated Design Systems Workshop at the Design Automation Conference (DAC) to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA, from June 8-13, 2008. The “4th Integrated Design Systems Workshop – OpenAccess: A Platform for Continuous Evolution and Innovation” will be held on June 9, from 12PM – 4PM in Room 208A, and includes lunch.

ABI Research Questions Future of Ultra Wideband
Members of the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) announced the development of Bluetooth over 802.11, giving Bluetooth a boost in data rate transfer and helping to quench consumer demand for added speed. Consequently, the UWB (Ultra-Wideband) market worries that this announcement may slow down or even suspend its relationship with Bluetooth; but ABI Research does not believe this will be the case.

Sharp Produces Highest Power Density for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells
Sharp Corporation has achieved the world’s highest(1) power density(2), 0.3W/cc, for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC) for mobile equipment. This new technology enables efficient power generation from a small cell volume. Thus, the use of this technology can make it possible to develop fuel cells that have almost the same volume but a longer continuous-use lifespan than lithium-ion batteries, which are the main type currently in use. Sharp will promote further research and development for the practical application of fuel cells for mobile equipment such as PDAs, electronic dictionaries, and notebook computers.
