In-Stat Publishes 2007 Global Handset Market Forecast
Third-generation (3G) handsets will continue strong growth over the next five years as second-generation technology wanes, reports In-Stat. Through 2012, fourth-generation network handsets are not expected to enter the market in sizable numbers. Helping to boost overall sales, subscribers owning and using several handsets will be more prevalent over the next several years. This development is already widespread in many areas, especially where employers provide a mobile device.

Kontron Introduces JRexplus 3.5-inch Embedded Single Board Computer
With the new JRexplus series of single board computers (SBCs), Kontron (SPS/IPC/DRIVES Hall 7 / Booth 7-306) offers for the first time a 3.5-inch SBC with a standardized PC/104-plus expansion slot and PCI bus performance. Therefore, the Kontron JRexplus family of 3.5-inch single board computers can now be used with most of the currently available PC/104-plus expansion cards.

Kontron Launches ETX-PM3 Computer-On-Modules
Kontron launched the ETX-PM3, the new generation of Intel® Pentium® M and Celeron® M processor based computer-on-modules. The Kontron ETX-PM3 joins the Kontron ETX-LX, ETX-CN8 and ETX-CD to become the fourth member of Kontron’s ETX 3.0 generation of computer-on-modules. The Kontron ETX family now offers true scalability with a full range of performance from Geode processing capabilities up to Intel Core(TM) 2 Duo processors.

Kontron Rolls Out KISS-1U 19-inch Industrial Silent Server
At the SPS/IPC/Drives in Nuremberg, Germany, Kontron (Hall 7, Booth 306) will unveil the new Kontron Industrial Silent Server 19-inch / 1U server family – KISS-1U. The new slimline Kontron KISS-1U is one of the most compact, quietest and fastest high-availability servers for long-lifecycle applications under harsh conditions.

Kontron Announces M@C 70 Panel PC with 7 Inch Display
Kontron announced the latest and smallest member of its slimline Micro Client family of panel PCs. With a touch-screen display of only 7 inches, the space-saving and versatile Kontron M@C 70 offers scalable Intel® Celeron® performance and a host of interfaces in an easy-to-mount and flexible design. The new Micro Client M@C 70 is an extremely compact and slim-line (installation depth < 50 mm) panel PC that is less expensive than a full-fledged IPC but still offers sophisticated graphics, intuitive GUIs and touch-screen operation on a 800×480 TFT display.

Kontron Introduces PCI-760 PICMG 1.3 System Host Board
Kontron introduced the new Kontron PCI-760 PICMG 1.3 System Host Board (SHB) featuring the latest Intel® Q35 GMCH embedded chipset and LGA-775 socket-based Intel processors. The Kontron PCI-760 is equipped with multi-core Intel Core(TM) 2 Duo processors up to 3.0 GHz (E6850) and provides outstanding server performance combined with advanced remote management features based on Intel’s AMT 3.0 technology.

Kontron Launches ETXexpress-CD COM Express with Dual Channel Memory
Kontron launched its COM Express(TM) compliant Kontron ETXexpress®-CD computer-on-modules with Dual Channel Memory support. The Kontron ETXexpress-CD follows the ETXexpress-MC to become Kontron’s second COM Express compliant computer-on-module (COM) with support for up to 4GByte Dual Channel Memory via two 533MHz or 667MHz DDR2 SO-DIMM sockets. Therefore, these modules are ideal for the latest generation of performance-hungry applications that require high levels of data processing. Extreme data processing capacities are needed especially by applications running (a)synchronous multiprocessing and/or virtualization technologies.

Emerson, Cavium Networks Team on ATCA, AdvancedMC, MicroTCA Blades
Emerson Network Power’s (NYSE: EMR) Embedded Computing business announced that it has partnered with Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM) to develop a family of high-performance ATCA, AdvancedMC, and MicroTCA packet processing blades based on Cavium Networks’ OCTEON processor family. The new blades will make it easy for network equipment providers to add scalable, high-performance Level 2 through Level 7 packet processing capability to next-generation, open architecture communications networks.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Promoter Group Seeks Contributors
The Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 Promoter Group is looking for additional contributors to its initial draft of the group’s proposed specification with a goal to have it completed by the first half of 2008. SuperSpeed USB will create a backward-compatible standard with the same ease-of-use and plug-and-play capabilities of previous USB computer connection technologies, ports and cabling. The personal USB interconnect is targeting to deliver over 10 times the speed of today’s connection and will be optimized for lower power and improved protocol efficiency.
