Applied Materials Announces FullVision 45nm CMP Process Control System
Applied Materials, Inc. announced its new Applied FullVision(TM) system that enables real-time control of dielectric CMP1 processes to the 45 nanometer (nm) device node and beyond. The FullVision system couples Applied’s patented window-in-pad technology with multiple-wavelength spectroscopy to deliver advanced in situ endpoint capability for a variety of dielectric materials, including oxide, STI2, and poly CMP applications. The system demonstrates high repeatability across all applications with less than 150 angstrom, 3-sigma endpoint accuracy on patterned wafers. A major advance over single wavelength endpoint technologies, the FullVision system offers improved measurement accuracy with 50% higher reliability for dielectric applications.

ip.access Wins Best Technology Foresight Award for Oyster 3G Femtocell
ip.access, the market leader in picocell and femtocell technologies, is celebrating another award win. Yesterday ip.access picked up the “World Communication Award” for “Best Technology Foresight” for its Oyster 3G femtocell, a low-power home access point that dramatically improves 3G cellular coverage for voice and data services in the home.
X-FAB’s Statistical Modeling Suite Supports MunEDA WiCkeD Tool Family
X-FAB Silicon Foundries, the world’s leading foundry group for analog/mixed-signal semiconductor applications, broadened its statistical modeling suite for Monte Carlo simulation for its 0.6 and 0.35 micrometer analog/mixed-signal technology platforms by announcing support for the MunEDA WiCkeD tool family of software tools. Using the combination of MunEDA automated circuit performance, yield analysis and optimization tools within the X-FAB statistical modeling suite for Monte Carlo simulation can help companies achieve robust, high-yielding designs. The move reflects ongoing cooperation between X-FAB and MunEDA to reduce the number of required analog/mixed-signal design respins and speed time to market for communications, computer, automotive, consumer electronic and other applications.
ABI Research Releases Report on GPS-Enabled Mobile Devices
Shipments of GPS-enabled mobile phones will generate over $50 billion in revenues in 2008, rising to $100 billion in 2012. The market for these handsets is expected to grow from around 240 million units in 2008 to over 550 million handset shipments in 2012. At present, most current GPS-enabled handsets are CDMA devices, but increasing numbers of GPS-enabled handsets for 3G/WCDMA networks will start to appear in the market from 2008 onwards.
IDC Publishes Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker Report
According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, factory revenue in the worldwide server market grew 0.5% year over year to $13.1 billion in the third quarter of 2007 (3Q07). Although this is the sixth consecutive quarter of positive revenue growth and the highest Q3 server revenue since 2000, it was the slowest growth rate since the first quarter of 2006. Server unit shipment growth of 6.3% year over year in 3Q07 represented a slight decrease over the 7.8% year-over-year growth reported in 3Q06.
Tundra, IBM Partner for Power Architecture System Interconnect
Tundra Semiconductor Corporation (TSX:TUN), a leader in System Interconnect, announced the extension of a technology collaboration and signing of a license agreement with IBM to bring new Power Architecture(TM) solutions to market as part of Tundra’s smart System Interconnect strategy.
Aeroflex 6113 Basestation Tester Supports A5/3 Encryption
Aeroflex has announced that it has added a new option to its highly successful 6113 basestation tester for the test of GSM basestations with an A5/3 encryption capability. The Aeroflex 6113′s support for the latest A5/3 GSM encryption algorithm provides a field portable and easy-to-use basestation test solution that can be used for installation and commissioning, routine maintenance and fault finding as well as final unit production testing. Support for the A5/3 encryption algorithm complements the Aeroflex 6113′s support for the existing A5/1 and A5/2 algorithms.
Aeroflex Receives e-Legacy Safety Award
Aeroflex has won the Contribution to Safety Award at the inaugural e-Legacy Awards 2007 organised by Electronic Product Design magazine in the UK and held earlier this month at the Tate Modern in London. The Award was presented to Phil Medd and Mike Thorpe of Aeroflex Test Solutions Wireless Division by Gina Citroni, Commercial Director, Amplicon Liveline, the sponsor of the Award and Caroline Hayes, the Editor of Electronic Product Design.
