Wireless USB Promoter Group Developing Wireless USB 1.1 Specification
The Wireless USB Promoter Group – comprised of companies HP, Intel Corporation, LSI Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, NEC Electronics Corporation, NXP Semiconductors, and Samsung Electronics – announced that they are developing the Wireless USB 1.1 Specification. Building on the well-established Wireless USB 1.0 Specification, advancements include new options for first-time association of devices, improved power efficiency, and support for UWB frequencies above 6 Ghz.

ZTE Selects Enea’s OSE 5 RTOS for 3G Handsets

ARC VTOC 4.0 Modeling Toolset Creates Cycle Accurate C++, SystemC Models
ARC International (LSE: ARK) released the VTOC® 4.0 Toolset for creating 100 percent cycle accurate C++ and SystemC models from Verilog and VHDL RTL. VTOC 4.0 includes a new intelligent code analysis system that enables developers to generate C++ and SystemC models that are more efficient and achieve higher performance. These source code models accelerate the development of performance critical firmware such as device drivers and codecs and functional verification of this software within a complete SoC; a complete software suite can be developed and debugged before the target SoC sees first silicon. ARC IP eXchange, based on VTOC technology, enables IP vendors, semiconductor, and fabless companies to securely deliver C++ and SystemC models to software developers, partners and customers.

Semiconductor Chip Sales Grow by 4.9% to $21.5 Billion in August
Worldwide sales of semiconductors rose sharply in August, growing to $21.5 billion, an increase of 4.9 percent over August 2006, when sales were $20.5 billion, and an increase of 4.5 percent from July of this year when sales were $20.6 billion, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported today.

Altera Releases Quartus II Software Version 7.2

c-Link Systems Creates cLS-Trak-Bot Tabletop Sized Robotic Vehicle
c-Link Systems introduced the cLS-Trak-Bot, a table-top sized robotic vehicle that allows students and hobbyists to get hand-on experience with autonomous motion. The Trak-Bot’s drive system was created to look and feel like a bulldozer and/or military tank. The tracks are constructed of an elastic material that provides traction without leaving surface marks. The drive wheel is a toothed gear, balanced with the front line wheel to stay on course. Each track has its own drive transmission and motor combination to provide increased reliability and performance. The chassis is constructed of ABS plastic, which reduces weight and allows for custom painting.

Mentor Introduces TestKompress Xpress Technology for 65nm, 45nm ICs
Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT) announced new technology in its TestKompress® automatic test pattern generation (ATPG) product to address the industry’s increasing demand for scan test compression. By providing compression levels exceeding 100X, Mentor’s new Xpress technology allows integrated circuit (IC) manufacturers to meet their most challenging quality objectives for advanced process nodes at 65 nanometers (nm) and beyond without driving up the cost of testing.
