NEC Rolls Out V850ES/Hx3, V850ES/Jx3 32-Bit All Flash Microcontrollers
NEC Electronics Europe and NEC Electronics America, Inc. introduced two additions to their popular V850ES(TM) lineup of 32-bit all flash microcontrollers (MCUs). The new V850ES/Hx3(TM) and V850ES/Jx3(TM) MCUs execute up to 69 Dhrystone MIPS at clock speeds of 32 megahertz (MHz), and are well-suited for next-generation access control products; point-of-sale systems; industrial controllers and drivers; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; computer peripherals; home appliances; factory automation equipment; metering devices; medical and process analytics instruments; and test and measurement equipment.

Wavesat Next Generation WiMAX NP7256 Mini-PCI Targets Mass Market CPE
Wavesat, the first company to deliver a WiMAX Mini-PCI design to the wireless broadband industry in 2006, is now announcing availability of its second generation WiMAX Mini-PCI design targeting low cost mass market indoor and outdoor CPE. Wavesat’s NP7256 mini-PCI design provides advanced WiMAX features such as support for UL subchannelization which significantly improves performance for indoor modems.

SEMI Reports August Book-to-Bill Ratio of 0.83
North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.39 billion in orders in August 2007 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.83 according to the August 2007 Book-to-Bill Report published by SEMI. A book-to-bill of 0.83 means that $83 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.

VLSI-SoC 2007 Features Three Keynotes, 16 Sessions, One Panel
The Fifteenth IFIP/IEEE Conference on VLSI-SoC, co-sponsored by the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), will be held October 15-17 at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Microsoft, Cadence Design Systems Cross License Patents
Microsoft Corp. and Cadence Design Systems, Inc. announced a cross-licensing agreement, expanding on a long-standing partnership between the two companies. The agreement allows broad access to each company’s respective patent portfolios to facilitate future technical collaboration in areas of common interest to both companies. The companies’ exchange and implementation of patented technologies will span many areas and give both companies greater freedom to innovate.

RFIC Solutions Increases Productivity by 2x with Cadence Virtuoso
Cadence Design Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd., the Indian subsidiary of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), announced that RFIC Solutions, Inc., a third-party intellectual property and design service provider, has increased productivity two-fold by adopting the Cadence(R) Virtuoso(R) custom design platform. RFIC Solutions successfully completed two tapeouts within the first month of adopting the Cadence technology.

Nikon, Synopsys Create Sub-45nm Manufacturing-Aware DFM Solution
Nikon Corporation, a leading supplier of lithography equipment for microelectronics manufacturing, and Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design and manufacturing software, announced that Nikon’s proprietary optical lithography exposure tool data is available for the latest release of the Synopsys Proteus optical proximity correction (OPC) software. As part of an ongoing collaboration, the two companies developed an embedded scanner parameter module, which delivers the “manufacturing-aware” OPC and resolution enhancement technology (RET) lithography simulation models needed for advanced 45-nanometer (nm) and below IC (integrated circuit) manufacturing. Mutual customers can benefit from improved OPC model accuracy and reduced time to silicon.

MediaTek Selects Mentor Graphics 0-In Formal Verification Technology
Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) announced that MediaTek, one of the world’s largest fabless integrated circuit (IC) companies, has selected the 0-In(R) Formal Verification technology for its functional verification methodology. Industry Forms USB 3.0 Promoter Group for Superspeed USB Interconnect
Intel Corporation and other industry leaders have formed the USB 3.0 Promoter Group to create a superspeed personal USB interconnect that can deliver over 10 times the speed of today’s connection. The technology, also developed by HP, Microsoft Corporation, NEC Corporation, NXP Semiconductors and Texas Instruments Incorporated, will target fast sync-and-go transfer applications in the PC, consumer and mobile segments that are necessary as digital media become ubiquitous and file sizes increase up to and beyond 25 Gigabytes.

Intel Corporation executives promised that the pending rollout of WiMAX, ongoing innovation to its popular Intel(R) Centrino(R) Duo processor technology for laptop products and a new category of Internet-connected devices will usher in a new era of reliable broadband-connected wireless computing starting next year. QNX Publishes Source Code for Symmetric Multiprocessing Support
On the heels of a dramatic shift to its software licensing and development models, QNX Software Systems announced it has included source code for its symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) capabilities in the core QNX(R) Neutrino(R) realtime operating system (RTOS) source code repository. QNX recently published the source code for its award-winning, microkernel-based OS and made the code available for download under a new hybrid software licensing model.
