TI Rolls Out RF SoC Solutions for Low-Power Wireless Applications
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced a pair of radio-frequency (RF) system-on-chip (SoC) solutions designed for low-power and low-voltage wireless applications used in the 2.4 GHz and sub-1 GHz frequency bands. The CC2510 and CC1110 combine TI’s state-of-the-art RF transceivers (CC2500 and CC1101) with an industry-standard enhanced 8051 microcontroller, 8/16/32 kB of in-system programmable flash memory, 1/2/4 kB of RAM and many other powerful features – all inside a small 6-mm x 6-mm QLP-36 package.

RTI Announces Complex Event Processing for Real-time Applications
RTI, The Real-Time Middleware Experts, announced that it has integrated Coral8′s Complex Event Processing (CEP) engine with RTI’s high-performance messaging, caching and data-visualization infrastructure for real-time applications. With this combined solution, developers can now rapidly create and deploy distributed applications capable of processing millions of messages, data updates and events per second, with latencies less than a millisecond. This performance is one to three orders of magnitude higher than is possible with traditional distributed CEP deployments.

RTI to Embed Coral8 Engine in Real-Time Application Infrastructure
Coral8, Inc., a leading provider of Complex Event Processing (CEP) software, and RTI, The Real-Time Middleware Experts, announced the formation of a strategic OEM partnership. Under the terms of the agreement, RTI will embed and offer the Coral8 Engine within the RTI real-time application infrastructure, delivering best-of-breed CEP technology to its customers and expanding new markets and applications for both companies.

Microchip Creates mTouch Solution for Touch Sensing Applications
Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, announced the mTouch(TM) solution to provide engineers with a free and easy method for adding a touch sensing user interface to applications utilizing PIC(R) microcontrollers. The free kit is available for download now from the Microchip Touch Sensing Design Center and provides full access to the source code, so designers can customize the algorithms and easily integrate them into their main application.

IDC Announces Apple iPhone, Apple TV, Slingbox AV Teardowns
Recent teardown research from IDC’s semiconductor analysts provides insight into the value chain for cutting-edge consumer products, such as the Apple iPhone, the Apple TV, and the Slingbox AV. “Teardown research analyzes product bill of material (BOM) costs and, more importantly, allows us to witness technology adoption and integration trends firsthand,” said IdaRose Sylvester, senior analyst for IDC semiconductor program. “It also allows us to evaluate the competitive supplier situation from one product generation to the next.”

Freescale Debuts Flexis Microcontroller Seminars for Embedded Developers
Freescale Semiconductor has launched a global seminar series designed to provide embedded developers with comprehensive, hands-on training in using Freescale’s Flexis(TM) QE128 devices, the industry’s first compatible 8- and 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs). Registration is now open for the Flexis seminar series, which will be held now through December in more than 90 locations worldwide.

Netronome Systems Supports Intel QuickPath Interconnect Technology
Netronome Systems, Inc., a leading developer of high-performance intelligent networking solutions that provide content flow analysis, deep packet inspection and application acceleration for network and security appliances, announced that it intends to deliver products for Intel’s(R) QuickPath Interconnect. Microchip Launches New PIC18F4XK20/2XK20 8-bit Microcontroller Family
Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, announced the first eight members of the PIC18F high-performance 8-bit microcontroller family to take advantage of Microchip’s latest process technology. This new family of microcontrollers sets a new benchmark for lower power consumption, low cost and high-performance operation. To control power consumption, the new 28-, 40- and 44-pin microcontrollers provide nanoWatt Technology features that include power-managed modes, an operating voltage range of 1.8V to 3.6V and efficient on-chip peripherals. Car Sales Drive Automotive ASIC Market
Increasing automobile sales drive the application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) market. In particular, the growing global market for automotive ASICs will benefit from the Asian market’s revenue contributions. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, World Markets for ASICs in Automobiles, finds that the market earned revenues of $2.99 billion in 2006 and estimates this to reach $4.10 billion in 2010.
