TI Rolls Out Multi-Standard, Triple Video Amplifiers for Consumer Apps
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced a family of flexible three-channel integrated video buffers optimized for consumer video applications where performance, space savings and lower system cost are required. The family supports HDTV, SDTV and a variety of digital media processors, such as TI’s DaVinci(TM) processors. The amplifiers incorporate a fifth-order Butterworth filter, which can be used as an encoder’s digital-to-analog converter (DAC) reconstruction filter. The devices provide video buffering by rejecting DAC images for better video quality in consumer applications such as set-top boxes, USB-powered video, portable video recorders and other video applications.
Semiconductor Insights Announces Intellectual Property Symposium
CMP’s Semiconductor Insights (SI) announced the creation of an Intellectual Property (IP) Symposium for the Electronics Industry. The two-day event, which will take place April 15-16, 2008 at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel, will be co-branded with EE Times and SI and will co-locate with the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley. The symposium will feature two tracks – one addressing technical issues in IP targeted to engineering and patent professionals, and one focused on the business of IP oriented to senior executives.
Emerson Network Power Announces Cover Kits for AC-DC Power Supplies
Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), has introduced cover kits for the Artesyn NLP250, Artesyn TLP150 and Astec LPS120 series of ac-dc power supplies. These power supplies are popular choices with OEMs and system integrators seeking ready-to-use packages in the 120 to 250 watt power band. Until now, the power supplies have only been available in open-frame, or non-enclosed, versions. The cover kits are designed to simplify mechanical integration of the power supplies into systems, and add an extra measure of electrical safety for service personnel.
PMC-Sierra Introduces Multi-Service MIPS32 Processors
PMC-Sierra, Inc. (Nasdaq:PMCS) announced two highly integrated Multi-Service Processors(R) (MSPs) targeted at high-performance, cost-sensitive embedded applications. The MSP8110 and MSP8120 System-On-Chip (SoC) solutions, powered by the MIPS32 34K core, provide large 64KB caches with integrated I/O interfaces and consume less than 1.5Watts. Court Allows Vendors to Import Qualcomm-based Handsets

Court Denies Request to Stay ITC Order in Qualcomm-Broadcom Case
Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, announced that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has denied a request by Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM) to stay the effectiveness pending appeal of a U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) exclusion order that stops the importation into the United States of Qualcomm chips that infringe a Broadcom patent. The Federal Circuit also denied Qualcomm’s request for a stay pending appeal as to “redesigned chips and products containing them.”
