Concurrent Debuts VME Dual PMC Single Board Computer with Intel Core 2 Duo
Concurrent Technologies announces the release of their latest single-slot VME dual-core processor, dual PMC, single board computer. The VP 417/03x uses the latest mobile dual core processors from the Intel(R) embedded roadmap, the 1.5 GHz or the 2.16 GHz Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor. The VP 417/03x family is I/O compatible with the popular and long standing VP 31x/02x family and gives an even greater improvement in measured performance/watt.

u-blox Integrates Gyroscope into GPS Dead Reckoning Reference Design
u-blox, the leading Swiss provider of GPS receiver technology, has improved its groundbreaking GPS dead reckoning system by integrating a gyroscope sensor from Epson Toyocom, a leader in the design and manufacture of crystal-based electronic products, into the reference design for the product.

Gemini Data Loggers Launches Radio Data Logging System
Gemini Data Loggers, producers of the Tinytag data logger, is launching its first Radio Data Logging System based on a robust, easy to use, wireless ‘mesh’ network. The ‘mesh’ network operates using radio to send information directly to a central source. This takes away the inconvenience of manual downloading such as labour, health and safety issues, and time delays.

U-SAM Chip Supports NFC, FeliCa 2.0 Security Protocols
In Japan, Sony’s FeliCa contactless payment technology is well established and used in transit ticketing and access applications. FeliCa is often seen as a proprietary precursor to standards-based near field communication (NFC) systems, but its very presence may have acted to impede NFC’s progress in the Japanese market. Now a joint initiative by Sony and NXP Semiconductors aims to provide a path for both technologies to coexist and grow.

Cypress Powers Sharp Internet AQUOS Remote Control
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) announced that Sharp Corporation has chosen Cypress’s WirelessUSB(TM) LP 2.4-GHz transceiver and enCoRe(TM) III 8-bit reprogrammable flash microcontroller (MCU) for the innovative remote control used with its Internet AQUOS line of LCD television and PC systems. The Internet AQUOS remote control serves as TV remote, mouse and keyboard thanks to alpha-numeric keys, a trackpad and RF connectivity. The remote uses Cypress’s robust WirelessUSB LP radio to maintain high-quality RF performance in the home, avoiding interference from other 2.4-GHz sources. Cypress’s wireless solution overcomes infrared’s line of sight limitations, and it also preserves battery life with best-in-class power consumption.
