Texas Instruments Debuts Video Switches for DVI, HDMI
Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced two new video switches for digital video interface (DVI) or high definition multimedia interface (HDMI). The new devices connect either two or three digital video signals coming from devices such as game consoles, digital video switch boxes, set-top boxes or DVD players to a single HDTV display.

Semtech Launches SX1211 ISM-Band UHF RF Transceiver Platform
Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq:SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, announced the SX1211, a UHF radio frequency (RF) transceiver with the industry’s lowest receiver (RX) current consumption (<3mA), significantly increasing battery life in wireless sensor network applications.

NXP Creates First Quad-Input HDMI 1.3 Receiver for HDTV
NXP, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, introduced a new HDMI 1.3 receiver chip, the TDA19978HL, which improves the audio and video performances and lowers the costs of high-definition (HD) audio/video receivers. The TDA19978HL is industry’s first HDMI 1.3 receiver with four inputs, eliminating the need for an external HDMI switch, reducing overall system cost and design cycles, enabling faster time-to-market while meeting the Industry’s demanding performance and application requirements for HDTV viewing.

Mentor Includes Sonics SMART Interconnect with Vista, Visual Elite
Sonics, a premier supplier of system-on-chip (SoC) SMART Interconnect solutions, announced that Sonics SMART Interconnect solutions are now available as library elements for Mentor Graphics’ Vista(TM) and Visual Elite(TM) products. Micron Introduces Sensor with MIPI Receiver for 3G Video-Phone Calling
Micron Technology, Inc., (NYSE:MU) announced that it has designed a receiver interface into one of its new mobile imaging sensors, helping to advance 3G video-phone calling. The receiver, compliant with the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) standard, allows for the image signal processor (ISP) embedded in the sensor for the primary camera to be repurposed as the ISP engine for the secondary camera, reducing the second camera’s cost. Secondary cameras are gaining popularity as a key design feature in today’s handsets, allowing for 3G video-phone calling within designated networks.
