Femtocell Technology to Boost Mobile Triple-Play Services
The worldwide wireless market in the developed world is approaching saturation, with carriers offering little compelling differentiation except for price points and, to a limited degree, signal quality, reports In-Stat. Mobile triple-play services (voice, video, and Internet) revenue opportunities are the most likely solution to this situation, but only when cell operators first solve signal coverage and capacity issues in the indoor home environment, the high-tech market research firm says.

Skyworks Solutions Receives ISO/TS 16949 Automotive Certification
Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS), an innovator of high performance analog and mixed signal semiconductors enabling mobile connectivity, announced that it has received ISO/TS 16949 certification, an internationally accepted automotive quality system accreditation. The ISO/TS 16949 recognition allows Skyworks to become a supplier in the automotive market estimated by Lehman Brothers to have a total available market of approximately $16 billion. The automotive sector offers a range of new growth opportunities for semiconductor companies as cars utilize wireless technology for keyless entry, Bluetooth capability, global positioning system (GPS), satellite radios, climate control, sensors and other applications. Given that ISO/TS 16949 is a key differentiating standard amongst customers across a wide range of industries, achieving this certification also creates opportunities in markets such as broadband, consumer electronics, meter reading, and RFID.
Agilent Creates First DisplayPort Compliance Test Solution
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) introduced the industry’s first DisplayPort source compliance test solution that fully implements the tests identified in the DisplayPort physical layer compliance test specification. The DisplayPort standard defines a high-bandwidth interface for connecting laptops or personal computers with display monitors or connecting computers with high-definition consumer electronics devices.
Ultracapacitors Replace Batteries in Toyota Supra HV-R Hybrid
The Strategy Analytics Automotive Electronics service report, “Will Ultracapacitors Replace Batteries?” analyzes ultracapacitor potential, especially following the recent the Toyota Supra HV-R victory in the Tokachi 24-hour endurance race. The HV-R was equipped with ultracapacitors, instead of rechargeable batteries, for power storage—their fast charging and discharging ability resulted in a first-ever hybrid car victory. The car was able to store large quantities of energy quickly from regenerative braking and apply this stored power quickly to its advantage. BMW has also demonstrated this ability in its “syncap” concept whereby two-thirds of vehicle total torque was generated by the syncaps enabling heavy SUVs to accelerate more quickly than before, with improved fuel economy.
NemeriX Announces Free NeX Assisted GPS Technology
NemeriX announced the free and immediate availability of NeX (NemeriX Extended Ephemeris) Assisted GPS technology on all NemeriX NX3 GPS platforms. Via its patent-pending approach, NemeriX’s NeX A-GPS technology significantly shortens the time it takes for a GPS receiver to acquire satellites and compute an accurate position, even in deep-indoor or harsh multi-path environments.
