The two companies also are negotiating a plan relating to transferring a part of Nokia’s Integrated Circuit (IC) operations to STMicroelectronics.
Bluespec Workshop to Take Place at MIT
The first Bluespec user community workshop will be held Monday, August 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Stata Center at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Mass. Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced a 3ppm/C (max) temperature drift, high accuracy, low cost, CMOS voltage reference family with high output current. The REF50xx features accuracy and system performance levels previously found only in costly buried zener technologies. Although designed for next-generation industrial process control, the REF50xx is also a good fit for a wide range of applications including medical instrumentation, precision data acquisition and test and measurement.
NXP PNX8330 STB Chipset Achieves Nagravision NOCS Certification
NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, announced that it has achieved NOCS certification from Nagravision, a Kudelski Group (SWX:KUD) company and leading independent supplier of open conditional access systems, on its PNX8330 chipset, answering the pay-TV industry demand for compliance with a leading security platform. In addition, NXP is one of the first semiconductor companies to support the Nagravision, NOCS dedicated, application programming interface (API) which will shorten development time for faster time-to-market of new set-top box (STB) devices. As STB manufacturers face more pressure to integrate security into the box, they look to technology providers to ease the implementation of conditional access systems. Through support of the Nagravision API and NOCS certification, NXP ensures that OEMs are able to rely on a certified chipset to pass security certification at the box-level.
Nokia Reveals Licensing, Multisourcing Strategy
Nokia announced that it is introducing a licensing and multisourcing model for its chipset strategy. This will allow Nokia to focus on its core competencies in chipset development, leverage external innovation, and foster competition in the chipset industry. Under this renewed strategy Nokia will discontinue parts of its own chipset development and expand its use of commercially available chipsets.
PCI-SIG Approves 8GT/s Bit Rate for PCI Express 3.0
PCI-SIG(R), the Special Interest Group responsible for the PCI Express(R) industry-standard I/O interconnect technology, announced the approval of 8GT/s as the bit rate for the next generation of PCIe(R) architecture, PCIe 3.0. In keeping with the industry expectations for ever-higher performance, low cost and compatibility, this represents the second speed increase since the initial launch of this I/O interconnect standard in 2003.
eASIC, Avnet ASIC Israel Roll Out Structured ASICs in Israel
eASIC Corporation, a provider of Structured ASIC devices, and Avnet ASIC Israel (AAI), a provider of ASIC and COT design and manufacturing services, announced a partnership to deliver eASIC’s breakthrough Structured ASIC technology to the Israeli marketplace.
