General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Selects RTI Middleware
Real-Time Innovations (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Experts, announced that RTI middleware is being used in the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), Advanced Cockpit Ground Control Station (GCS). A recent flight demonstration on a mission-configured MQ-1 Predator unmanned aircraft system (UAS) validated GA-ASI’s major upgrade of the Advanced Cockpit GCS using RTI’s networking middleware, which was completed in only 14 months.

Actel Radiation-Tolerant RTAX-S FPGA Flies on Phoenix Mars Mission
Bringing the benefits of low-power solutions to mission-essential instruments, Actel Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTL) announced its radiation-tolerant RTAX-S field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are aboard NASA’s Phoenix mission to Mars, which launched August 4 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The Phoenix spacecraft includes a Meteorological Station (MET), provided by the Canadian Space Agency. MDA, a leading provider of robotic space systems, led construction of the MET instrument and has integrated Actel’s one-million gate RTAX1000S-CQ352 device into the instrument subsystem, which is used to acquire, process and transmit temperature and pressure data to scientists and researchers back on Earth.

Motorola, Wind River Team on Integrated AdvancedTCA/MicroTCA Platform
Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) and Wind River Systems (NASDAQ:WIND) announced that they have formed a strategic alliance designed to provide integrated AdvancedTCA(R) (ATCA(R)) and MicroTCA(TM) communication platforms with Carrier Grade Linux and VxWorks runtimes. Through this agreement, Motorola’s embedded communications computing business and Wind River will work together to deliver bundled hardware and software solutions for next-generation networking designs for the telecom, military and aerospace, medical and industrial automation industries.

Freescale India Announces Embedded Design Challenge
Freescale Semiconductor is offering engineering students and embedded developers in India the opportunity to turn great designs into 8-bit innovations. The embedded design contest, which began August 1, challenges engineers to stretch their imagination and create innovative prototypes using Freescale’s 8-bit HCS08 8/16-pin microcontroller (MCU). To compete in the design challenge, participants must submit their design prototypes complete with schematics and software developed with CodeWarrior(TM) tools, along with a working, board-level demonstration of the product by October 31, 2007.

Wind River Supports Open Source Mobile Platform by Joining LiMo Foundation
Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), announced that it has joined the LiMo Foundation to support the organization’s mission to develop a Linux-based, open mobile communication device software platform. Sensr Selects Freescale Sensors for Motion-Sensing Device
Freescale Semiconductor is supplying the advanced sensor technology for an innovative line of motion-recording instruments designed for industrial research, product testing and the shipping industry. Sensr, a supplier of motion monitoring and recording instruments, has chosen Freescale’s three-axis accelerometer to handle the critical task of motion detection in Sensr’s GP series instruments.

Microchip Technology Announces ICwiki Semiconductor Wiki

Actel Offers Embedded System Management Reference Design for $1.20

Express Logic ThreadX RTOS Supports Freescale i.MX27 Processor
