Semiconductor Equipment Industry Reports May Book-to-Bill Ratio of 1.00
North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.67 billion in orders in May 2007 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 1.00 according to the May 2007 Book-to-Bill Report published by SEMI. A book-to-bill of 1.00 means that $100 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.
RadiSys Launches MicroTCA Development Kit

Emerson Announces Digitally Controlled 500 Watt AC-DC Power Supply
Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), has launched a digitally controlled 500 watt ac-dc power supply that offers an unprecedented power density of 11.9 watts per cubic inch. The new Astec NTS503 power supply has an exceptionally compact 4 x 7 inch footprint, making it easy for OEMs to incorporate a single unit that satisfies all their bulk dc power needs, and offers a choice of convection or forced-air cooling. The convection-cooled model has an output of 200 W and a height of just 1.5 inches, making it ideal for 1U (1.75 inch high) rack-mount chassis and other low-profile applications, while the fan-cooled version can deliver its full rated output of 500 W up to 50 °C with 30 CFM forced air. Both versions accommodate a wide ambient operating temperature range of 0 °C to 70 °C.

Fastrax Rolls Out Three New GPS Receivers
Fastrax Ltd., the provider of programmable iTrax GPS receivers as well as open and portable iSuite OEM GPS Software Development Kit environments, announced the latest additions to its iTrax and uPatch product families. Iridium Satellite Reports Continued Strong Growth
Iridium(R) Satellite reports continued strong growth for its global satellite communications services in the Asia Pacific market, with the number of maritime subscribers in the region up 15 percent and the number of land-based subscribers up 16 percent over this time last year. Year-over-year, maritime traffic in the region has grown by 22 percent and land-based traffic by 26 percent. During the same period, Iridium’s total subscriber growth worldwide was 24 percent.
Connect One Updates AT+i Command Set for Connecting Devices to Networks
Connect One(TM), the Device Networking Authority(TM), announced the release of AT+i(TM) Version 8.0, an Internet command set that enables simple connectivity of devices to networks. AT+i, Version 8.0, supports network access for devices via dial-up (PSTN), Ethernet, WiFi, GPRS/CDMA, WiMAX and any existing and future IP-based mediums. Connect One uses the AT+i protocol as the communication interface between an embedded application and its iChip(TM) family of IP controllers. The iChip manages network connectivity, security and remote management functions for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications.
Mounted Police Recovers Stolen Vehicles with Iridium Technology
Alberta-based GEOTrac International, an Iridium(R) value-added reseller, is working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to apply advanced GPS, mapping and satellite communications technology to facilitate recovery of stolen vehicles and equipment. GEOTrac’s solution uses Iridium satellites to transmit location data from small GPS modules attached to the vehicles. The RCMP uses the GEOTrac system to find and recover stolen vehicles and heavy equipment.

Synopsys, NEC Improve Sign-Off Accuracy for Advanced SoC Designs
Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design software, announced that NEC Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723) has adopted Synopsys’ PrimeTime(R) advanced on-chip variation (AOCV) analysis technology for their advanced system-on-chip (SoC) designs. This latest innovation to PrimeTime was the result of close collaboration with industry-leading semiconductor partners such as NEC Electronics. The PrimeTime AOCV technology enables designers to reduce the margins they use in their design process, thereby improving the performance of their designs as well as reducing the number of iterations needed to achieve timing closure in their design cycle. AOCV is an evolutionary approach to more accurately model increasing variations at 90-nanometer (nm) and 65-nm process nodes compared to traditional on-chip variation analysis and is an intermediate step to full statistical timing analysis of variations.
