Synplicity Acquires HARDI Electronics
Synplicity, Inc. (Nasdaq:SYNP), a leading supplier of software for the design and verification of semiconductors, announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire all of the outstanding shares of HARDI Electronics AB, a leading developer of off-the-shelf ASIC prototyping boards, for $24.2 million in cash. The ASIC prototyping market is one the fastest growing segments of the EDA industry, and this acquisition makes Synplicity the leader in this part of the ASIC verification market.
DAC Tutorials Tackle Most Challenging Design Issues
Registration is still open for the tutorials offered on Monday, June 4, and Friday, June 8, as part of the 44th Design Automation Conference (DAC), happening June 4 – 8 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif. A total of seven tutorials will be offered to provide design engineers valuable, in-depth, technical information on a wide variety of today’s most challenging design topics, including variability, system design for embedded multimedia devices, formal verification techniques, design of high-performance power delivery networks, soft errors, design and yield, and low power design. The registration fee for the tutorials is $300 per tutorial and includes continental breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks, and tutorial notes. Attendees can register for the conference, including these tutorials, online or at the conference.
Elma Unveils Extreme Temperature Light Guides
Elma Electronic has announced new high-temperature light guides with integrated LEDs. The LEDs are ideal for vapor phase soldering. The Elma light guides can withstand 260 degrees C for 40 seconds, or 200 degrees C for 180 seconds. This represents a substantial improvement in compatible solderability with other components from the previous 235 degrees C and 185 degrees C respectively. They are available in single or dual LED version and vertical and horizontal orientations.
picoChip Rolls Out Latest WiMAX Basestation Reference Design
picoChip announced the next version of its industry-standard WiMAX basestation reference design, with a software upgrade to support Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 and MIMO. The new PC8532 WiMAX platform has its first public display at WiMAX World Europe this week (Booth Number 204). It is the only basestation reference design to support WiMAX Wave 2 and IO-MIMO, and scales from access point (femtocell) to sophisticated multi-sector carrier macrocells. The PC8532 is used for WiMAX certification and has already demonstrated the widest range of interoperability with third-party terminals.
