TI Rolls Out Temperature Sensor for Thermal System Management
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) announced an integrated +/-1C maximum remote junction temperature sensor and local temperature sensor, designed to monitor thermal diodes found in CPUs, microprocessors, graphics processing units and FPGAs. Unlike other devices, the TMP411 features programmable series resistance cancellation and diode non-ideality correction which simplify and remove the time-consuming process of individual processor resistance calibration commonly associated with remote diode monitoring.

Zuken, Aldec Offer Design and Verification Flow for FPGA
Adopting programmable devices is set to become significantly easier as a result of a partnership between Zuken, the engineering consulting company, and Aldec, the HDL verification specialists. By combining Zuken’s expertise in system- and board-level electronics design and verification with Aldec’s mixed HDL verification technology, the two companies will be able to offer a combined design and verification flow for flexible field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices on printed circuit boards (PCBs). At this time, the partnership will focus integration efforts on Zuken’s enterprise-wide PCB design suite, CR-5000.
Renesas Announces SoC Device for Car Navigation Systems
Renesas Technology America, Inc. announced a new system-on-chip (SoC) solution with significant performance and capability enhancements for car navigation systems and other in-vehicle car information system products. The single-chip SH7775 32-bit processor, running at speeds up to 600MHz, achieves performance as high as 1 GIPS (giga instructions per second) and up to 4.2 GFLOPS (giga floating-point operations per second). The SuperH device incorporates a GPS baseband processing function and a newly developed graphics engine that is optimized for map drawing and 3-D images. It also provides many additional peripheral functions that are essential for next-generation in-vehicle safety and convenience systems that work better, offer more features, and cost less.
Semiconductor Equipment Industry Posts Book-to-Bill Ratio of One
North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.60 billion in orders in April 2007 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 1.00 according to the April 2007 Book-to-Bill Report published by SEMI. A book-to-bill of 1.00 means that $100 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.
