Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) announced the immediate availability of version 2.5 of the 0-In(R) Clock Domain Crossing (CDC) and Formal Verification products. This new release includes significant technology enhancements allowing customers to apply advanced assertion-based verification techniques across a wider range of design types more efficiently. Specifically, the enhancements deliver increased performance and capacity to enable a more rapid means of finding and correcting critical bugs prior to committing designs to silicon. Moreover, through a much improved graphical analysis and debug environment customers can be more productive in resolving the toughest bugs in their chips.

Exar Merges with Sipex
Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR) and Sipex Corporation (Nasdaq: SIPX) announced that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement to combine the two companies. Under the terms of the agreement, which was approved by the boards of directors of both companies, Sipex stockholders will receive 0.6679 of a share of Exar for each share of Sipex. Exar stockholders will own approximately 67.6% and Sipex stockholders will own approximately 32.4% of Exar after completion of the transaction, which assumes conversion to stock of outstanding Sipex debt and related warrants. Ralph Schmitt, Sipex chief executive officer, will become the chief executive officer of Exar. Interim chief executive officer and chairman, Richard L. Leza, will continue as chairman of the board of directors.

TI Samples Microcontrollers for One- and Multi-phase Metering
As utility companies adopt electronic-based meter reading technology to reduce costs while offering new services and energy-saving consumer options, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) announced the sampling of its 16 MHz MSP430F47×4 ultra-low power microcontrollers (MCU) for one- and multi-phase metering. By integrating up to four individual 16-bit sigma delta analog to digital converters (ADCs), a 32×32-bit hardware multiplier, a 160 segment LCD driver with contrast control, up to 60 KB of flash memory and a real time clock (RTC), the F47×4 devices enable a five-to-one reduction in system components. TI’s utility metering portfolio also includes devices targeted at water and gas metering, as well as power line communications (PLC) and radio frequency (RF) interfaces for automated meter reading (AMR).
VMETRO to OEM, Distribute AdvancedIO’s 10GbE Products
VMETRO, Inc, a leading provider of high performance signal and data processing boards and subsystems and AdvancedIO Systems, Inc., the technology leader in configurable, 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) connectivity solutions for embedded systems, announced that they have signed a multi-year original equipment manufacturing (OEM) and distribution agreement. Under the terms of the OEM agreement, AdvancedIO’s flexible technology will become the basis for 10GbE connectivity in VMETRO’s integrated systems sold worldwide. Altera Rolls Out Arria GX Transceiver-Based FPGAs
Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) extended their leadership in the transceiver-based FPGA market with the introduction of the low-cost Arria(TM) GX family. Arria GX FPGAs are optimized to support PCI Express (PCIe), Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and Serial RapidIO(TM) (SRIO) standards up to 2.5 Gbps; these standards are rapidly emerging as mainstream protocols in a wide variety of markets and applications.
