NEC Lx3 Microcontrollers
NEC’s 78K0/Lx3 series of 8-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) feature liquid crystal display (LCD) controllers, drivers on-chip, and low power consumption. The devices are ideal for consumer electronics with LCD readouts and strict power consumption requirements, such as home health appliances including scales, blood pressure monitors, and blood glucose meters; HVAC and industrial systems including utility meters; and household appliances such as coffee makers and rice cookers.
Renesas H8SX 32-Bit CISC Microcontrollers
Renesas’ H8SX/1638, H8SX/1648, and H8SX/1622 32-Bit CISC microcontrollers operate at up to 50MHz, achieve performance levels up to 50 MIPS, and have extensive arrays of on-chip peripheral functions. The microcontrollers enable office automation products, digital consumer devices and industrial equipment that are more capable, smaller and less expensive. They offer up to 1 Megabyte of fast (zero-wait-state) on-chip flash memory that allows single-cycle access at 50MHz operation. A deep software standby mode — a first for H8SX devices — achieves extra power savings, providing operation similar to that of software standby mode with only partial retention of RAM data. The devices also have faster and more precise analog input interfaces such as analog-to-digital (A/D) and delta-sigma (Delta-Sigma) type A/D converters.
Freescale RFX300-30 3G Multiband RF Subsystem
The Freescale RFX300-30 is an ultra small 3G multiband form factor RF subsystem for handset design. The new solution combines Freescale’s EDGE and UMTS technologies into a single, integrated package, enabling dramatic board and cost savings. Significantly reducing time to first call, the new RF subsystem provides a simple programming model for fast, easy implementation and is the first to incorporate an open standard digital interface.
IMEC SCALDIO Wideband SDR Transceiver
The IMEC SCALDIO is a wideband software-defined radio (SDR) transceiver. It can be programmed to operate with all current and future cellular, WLAN, WPAN, broadcast and positioning standards in the frequency range between the 174MHz and 6GHz. The multi-mode SDR transceiver has a power consumption and CMOS chip area comparable to current state-of-the-art single mode radios thereby fitting the performance, power and cost requirements for integration into next-generation mass volume mobile devices.
TI WiLink and BlueLink Chips
TI recently introduced two new devices. The WiLink(TM) 6.0 is a single chip that integrates a complete offering of mobile WLAN, Bluetooth, and FM, with support for IEEE draft 802.11n for better coverage and reception. The BlueLink(TM) 7.0 is a chip that integrates Bluetooth and FM. The FM functionality in both devices delivers FM transmit and receive capabilities, turning the handset into a personal area broadcast device.
