There was standing room only at the launch of Avnet Electronics Marketing’s X-Fest global seminar and training series in Beijing on 3 April – the first in a 90-city worldwide programme jointly sponsored by Avnet, Xilinx and industry leaders together in a collaborative effort to provide system level solutions for customers to meet with design challenges.
Femtocells, Picocells Gain CDMA2000, EvDO Support
picoChip announced that Global Wireless Technologies (GWT) has developed a hardware reference design and software for CDMA2000 and EvDO femtocells and picocells running on the picoArray(TM) processor. This gives picoChip’s customers solutions for all the major standards, WCDMA (HSDPA upgradeable to HSUPA), CDMA2000 and EvDO Rev A, as well as TD-SCDMA and WiMAX, all on a single software-defined hardware platform.
Airbus Simulation Projects Fly with Concurrent, FTI Group

DSP Market to Grow by 8% in 2007
The market for general-purpose digital signal processor (DSP) chips is forecast to grow 8% in 2007 to the $9 billion level according to a new market study from Forward Concepts, here. The new study, “DSP Chip Strategies ’07,” predicts a more typical growth of 15% in 2008 driven by communications and multimedia applications. But the new study also emphasizes the even bigger embedded DSP market that will grow to $17.6 billion in 2007, to almost twice the size of the general-purpose DSP chip market. The new in-depth study is believed to be the most comprehensive study available of markets driven by DSP technology, and includes the results of a new survey of DSP professionals in over 30 countries.
TI Licenses Super Wideband Codec for HD VoIP
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) [NYSE:TXN] announced technology enhancements that redefine its extensive Voice over IP (VoIP) solutions portfolio, driving voice applications even closer to a high-definition (HD) experience. TI is licensing the Low Delay AAC super wideband codec from the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS. Headquartered in Erlangen, Germany, Fraunhofer IIS is the home of MP3 and co-inventor of AAC audio coding. Powered by TI’s high-performance digital signal processors (DSPs), the MPEG-4 AAC-LD super-wideband codec offers substantial benefits compared to earlier wideband audio technology, and has the performance capabilities to make ubiquitous HD voice a reality in global IP networks.
Microchip 16-bit Embedded Control Design Contest
Microchip Technology Inc.
