CEVA Unveils Bluetooth 2.0+EDR IP

ST Introduces Two SPEAr Configurable SoC ICs
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a world leader in system-on-chip technology, announced two new additions to its SPEAr(TM) family of configurable System-on-Chip ICs. The dual-core SPEAr Plus600, complemented with a single-core variant, SPEAr Head600, represents a market-unique solution that enables printer, fax, point-of-sale (POS) and other equipment manufacturers to develop complex yet flexible digital engines at a fraction of the time and cost required by a full-custom design approach. Additionally, the possibility to choose between a single- and a dual-processor device with the same footprint and architecture will enable manufacturers to address different market segments for the same application.
Five Companies Join Si2′s Low Power Coalition
Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) announced that AMD, ARM, Freescale, Golden Gate Technology and IBM have joined Si2′s Low Power Coalition (LPC), increasing the total to 17 members. In addition, Gill Watt, engineering manager at AMD, has been elected as Chair of the LPC. Tony Luk, director, Industry Alliances at Cadence Design Systems, was elected LPC Vice-Chair.
Arasan Rolls Out IP Cores for Mobile Industry Processor Interface
Arasan Chip Systems, Inc. (“Arasan”), a leading supplier of reusable Intellectual Property (IP) cores, semiconductors and design services, announced the availability of a suite of IP Cores that support the emerging MIPI(TM) (Mobile Industry Processor Interface) standards. The new products available include the Display Serial Interface (DSI) IP Core, the Camera Serial Interface (CSI-2) IP Core, and the D-PHY IP Core. The SLIMbus(TM) IP Core (Serial Low-power Inter-chip Media bus) supporting the preliminary draft specification is also available. Micron Debuts HD Sensors for Digital Cameras, Camcorders
Micron unveiled two new CMOS image sensors for mainstream digital cameras and camcorders. With its new sensors, Micron brings exceptional picture quality and ultra-fast burst modes to point-and-shoot digital cameras, features typically found only in high-end digital, single-lens-reflex (D-SLR) cameras. Additionally, the new sensors enable true high-definition (HD) video capture for point-and-shoot cameras, a feature that is typically found only in high-end camcorders.
Echelon Sets Standard for Household Appliance in Europe
CECED, the European Committee of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances, has adopted Echelon’s technology as part of its Household Appliances Control and Monitoring – Application Interworking Specification (AIS) standard. The CECED AIS standard defines Echelon’s control networking technology platform as one of the technologies for communication among household white goods such as ovens, washers and dryers. The creation of a CECED approved standard is an important step towards a mass market for smart appliances and home automation and control in Europe. Mentor Graphics Synthesis Products Support Xilinx Virtex-5 SXT FPGAs
Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) announced that its suite of advanced synthesis products supports the newly introduced Virtex(TM)-5 SXT field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) from Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX). Synthesis support for Virtex-5 SXT FPGAs is available now in Precision(R) Synthesis, release 2006a Update 2. Support within the LeonardoSpectrum(TM) tool suite will follow.

TI Unveils Digital Still Camera Reference Design
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) has leveraged its digital still camera (DSC) silicon and expertise to offer a production-ready software reference design, based on DaVinci(TM) technology. Manufacturers can use the reference design to bring the type of burst capture performance found today only in digital single-lens reflex (D-SLR) cameras to low-cost, point-and-shoot digital cameras. In addition, by enabling high-definition (HD) video on digital cameras priced as low as $99, TI is setting a new bar for DSC performance at competitive retail prices.
