Samsung Starts Mass Production of 60nm DRAM
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, announced that it has begun mass producing the industry’s first 1 Gigabit (Gb) DDR2 DRAM (dynamic random access memory) using 60 nanometer (nm)–class process technology.
NEC Unveils 8-Bit All Flash Microcontrollers with LCD Driver
NEC Electronics America, Inc. introduced its new 78K0/Lx3 line of 8-bit all flash microcontrollers (MCUs) with on-chip liquid crystal display (LCD) controllers/drivers and extremely low power consumption levels. The 78K0/Lx3 family features 46 devices and 76 product configurations. The MCUs are ideal for consumer electronics-type products that have LCD panels and strict power consumption requirements. The new devices can be used in home healthcare equipment such as scales, blood pressure monitors and blood glucose meters; HVAC and industrial systems such as utility meters; and household appliances such as coffee makers.
Sensata Acquires Cypress’ Automotive Image Sensor Business
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its SMaL Camera Technologies, Inc. subsidiary to Sensata Technologies, Inc. The transaction is expected to close later this quarter. SMaL Camera provides cameras and camera subsystems to automotive advanced driver assistance systems for such customers as Bosch and Delphi. The company has approximately 25 employees.
