IBM Selects Magma’s QuickCap NX as Golden 3D Extraction Standard
Magma(R) Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of semiconductor design software, announced that IBM(R) (Nasdaq: IBM) has expanded use of Magma’s QuickCap(R) NX parasitic capacitance extraction software as its golden 3-D extraction reference standard for advanced process technologies. IBM is also using Magma’s QuickInd(TM) as the standard for comparing inductance extraction of IBM layout parasitic extraction (LPE) decks.

MathStar, Mentor Graphics Focus on FPOA Design Tools
MathStar (Nasdaq:MATH), a fabless semiconductor company specializing in high-performance programmable logic, and Mentor Graphics (Nasdaq: MENT) announced a development partnership for design tools that MathStar’s customers use with MathStar’s Field Programmable Object Arrays(TM) (FPOAs). MathStar also announced immediate availability of the version 2.0 release of its design tools for the company’s Arrix(TM) family of FPOAs based on the Visual Elite(TM) System Design tool from Mentor Graphics.
ST ARM7 Motor Control Development Kit Simplifies Vector Drive
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) announced a new motor control kit, built around the recently-announced 32-bit STR750 microcontroller, which enables the rapid development of high-performance vector-control applications, using both Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) and 3-phase AC Induction Motors, for cost-sensitive appliance, industrial and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) markets. The kit includes all the necessary firmware and hardware – including a 24V DC permanent magnet motor for initial evaluation – to allow the user to be up and running within minutes, and to continue through to development of the target application.
Micrel Unveils 4A MIC68400 LDOs
Micrel Inc., (Nasdaq: MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, introduced the 4A MIC68400, the latest addition to its MIC68000 family of LDOs designed specifically for powering FPGA, CPLDs, DSPs and microcontrollers. The devices are aimed at applications such as broadband modems, routers, servers, storage networks, and wireless base stations. Synopsys, Inc. Featuring a Freescale PowerPC MPC7448 processor and 1 Gigabyte of DDR SDRAM, the EP2A also includes the latest Marvell Discovery V integrated system controller for leading-edge performance.
