Kyocera, Runcom Make MIMO-Powered Data Connection with WiMAX Antenna
Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global supplier of CDMA wireless devices and accessories, and Runcom Technologies, the pioneer in OFDMA(R) enabling technologies for Mobile WiMAX, announced that they have achieved what is believed to be the first MIMO-powered data connection using innovative WiMAX antenna technology. MIMO-powered WiMAX uses multiple antennas to deliver mobile services three to five times faster than today’s wireless broadband cellular networks, and at a much lower cost to carriers.

Tektronix Announces Ultra-High Performance Oscilloscopes
Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced the introduction of the industry’s first ultra-high performance oscilloscope with 20 GHz real-time bandwidth and 50 GS/s simultaneous sampling rate. NXP Enables Concurrent Bluetooth and Wireless LAN Connectivity
NXP Semiconductors, formerly Philips Semiconductors, announced an enhanced system solution enabling mobile users to simultaneously take advantage of handsets’ Bluetooth and Wireless LAN (WLAN) capabilities. The NXP Nexperia cellular system solution 5210, incorporating an unlicensed mobile access (UMA) software stack from Kineto Wireless, allows devices to be used at home over fixed-line broadband networks and while on the go via a cellular network. The simultaneous usage of Bluetooth and WLAN enables these calls to be made using a Bluetooth headset.

Freescale Creates Smallest 3G Multiband RF Subsystem for Handsets
Achieving another milestone in its 3G technology roadmap, Freescale Semiconductor has unveiled the industry’s smallest 3G multiband form factor RF subsystem for handset design. The new solution combines Freescale’s popular and proven EDGE and UMTS technologies into a single, integrated package, enabling dramatic board and cost savings. Significantly reducing time to first call, the new RF subsystem provides the world’s simplest programming model for fast, easy implementation and is the first to incorporate an open standard digital interface. The announcement was made in anticipation of next week’s 3GSM World Congress being held in Barcelona.

Emerson Network Power’s (NYSE: EMR) new Embedded Computing business, formerly Artesyn Communication Products, announced that it will preview a new MicroTCA WiMAX basestation at 3GSM. The proof-of-concept demo, featuring an Emerson MicroTCA system housed in a Knürr outdoor enclosure, will include an Intel WiMAX baseband processing card, E1/T1 and Gigabit Ethernet backhaul cards, and a system controller card.
