APCON announced it has sued MRV Communications Inc. and Curtiss-Wright Corporation in federal court for patent infringement. The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and seeks to prevent MRV and Curtiss-Wright from infringing upon APCON’s U.S. Patent No. 6,243,510.

- Texas Instruments Rolls Out 14- and 12-bit 210-MSPS ADCs
Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE:TXN) (TI) introduced two 14- and 12-bit, 210-MSPS (mega samples per second) analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) to its pin-compatible, high-speed ADS5546 family. The ADS5547 and ADS5527 provide the highest performance at 210 MSPS with up to 73.3-dBFS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and 85-dBc spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) at 70 MHz input frequency. This high performance brings benefits such as better range and resolution for radar and imaging, more accurate power amplifier characterization in digital pre-distortion solutions and higher quality for video and imaging systems.
- Shin-Etsu Chemical Develops RoHS-Compliant Optical Component Material
Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (TSE: 4063), announced that it has developed a manufacturing technology for lead-free optical isolators, which enables it to comply with the European RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances). Until now, Faraday rotators, which are main component parts of optical isolators, contained lead; however, this newly developed technology has made it possible to totally eliminate the lead element in optical isolators.
