  • Freescale Wins Gold with BeeStack Wireless Communication Software
    Manufacturers now are able to leverage an all-in-one ZigBee(TM) solution from Freescale Semiconductor. According to TUV Rheinland of North America and NTS, designated independent testing and assessment service providers of the ZigBee Alliance, BeeStack(TM) wireless communication software is one of the first to conform to the latest ZigBee Alliance specification and to achieve golden unit status. BeeStack software has set the standard of excellence for future platforms requiring certification testing.
  • Superman Flies with NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 SDI, PNY Technologies
    Scott Anderson, Academy Award(R) winning visual effects supervisor and founder of Digital Sandbox, chose the NVIDIA Quadro(R) FX 4500 SDI by PNY Technologies(R) graphic board as a key component to the Superman Returns DI pipeline and digital workflow. Superman Returns, the latest blockbuster from Warner Bros., was shot using Panavision’s Genesis(R) Digital Camera System. The unprecedented use of this camera for a major feature film meant that a new digital workflow needed to be established. Anderson used Globalstor’s ExtremeStor-DI workstation with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 SDI by PNY Technologies graphic board and ASSIMILATE’s SCRATCH(TM) Data-Centric Workflow Solution as the backbone for the film’s digital film-to-film workflow.

  • MegaChips Improves Design Team Verification Process with Incisive Xtreme
    Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS) announced that MegaChips LSI Solutions, a subsidiary of MegaChips Inc., has chosen the Cadence(R) Incisive(R) Xtreme(R) Desktop for its overall design and verification flow. The new hardware acceleration and emulation system will initially be targeted to shrink the verification cycle of MegaChips Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) decoder LSI for Terrestrial Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB-T). MegaChips noted that the Xtreme system shortened the overall time allocated for verification by up to two-thirds—a key factor in MegaChips decision to adopt the system for their design team.
  • SMIC Adopts Mentor High-Speed USB 2.0 PHY in .13 Micron Process
    Mentor Graphics Corporation (“Mentor”, Nasdaq: MENT), a leader in standards-based semiconductor intellectual property (IP), and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (“SMIC”, NYSE: SMI, HKSE: 0981.HK) announced the development and adoption of the Mentor Graphics(R) High-Speed Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 physical layer (PHY) in the SMIC 0.13um process. The PHY can be integrated with a USB controller, serving as a bridge between the digital and modular parts of the design. Mentor’s USB PHY (MUSBPHY) provides very low power consumption and minimal die area, making it an ideal solution for consumer products, such as digital cameras, game consoles, set-top boxes, mobile devices, digital printers and scanners.
  • Mentor Graphics Offers Synthesis Support for Xilinx Spartan-3A FPGAs
    Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) announced that its suite of advanced synthesis products supports the newly introduced Spartan(TM)-3A field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) from Xilinx, Inc. This new, I/O-optimized family of FPGAs is an extension of the Xilinx low-cost, high-volume Spartan-3 generation. Synthesis support for Spartan-3A FPGAs is available now in Precision(R) Synthesis, release 2006a. Support within the LeonardoSpectrum(TM) tool suite will follow.

The device integrates a driver IC and high- and low-side(1) power MOSFETs in a 56-pin QFN package that conforms to the integrated Driver-MOSFET (DrMOS) package standard. The driver-MOSFET product is ideal for voltage regulators, DC-DC switching power supplies, and point-of-load (POL) converters essential for providing the stable low-voltage DC power needed in PCs, servers, and many other types of electronic equipment.
  • Xilinx Ships Record 26 Million 90nm FPGA Devices
    Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) announced it has set a programmable logic industry record with total shipments of more than 26 million 90nm devices, fueled by broad adoption of its flagship product families: Spartan(TM)-3 and Virtex(TM)-4 FPGAs. Xilinx supplies approximately 70 percent of the world’s 90nm FPGAs, based upon cumulative revenues, commanding a two-year market lead over its nearest competitor at 90nm.
