  • TI Unveils IEC 61508 Compliant Symmetrical Dual-Core Microcontroller
    Accelerating the trend towards safer, but less complex automotive chassis control applications, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced a new symmetrical dual-core microcontroller (MCU). The TMS570 MCU is the first automotive processor solution to support a certification according to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61508 SIL3 standard – the highest level of safety that is designated for automotive applications. Co-developed with Robert Bosch GmbH, a leading global supplier of automotive technology, the TMS570 MCU will be implemented in next generation braking, steering and chassis control applications.
  • Palm Responds to Patent Infringement Lawsuit by NTP
    Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) today issued the following statement in response to a patent-infringement lawsuit filed against it by patent-holding company NTP Inc. The NTP lawsuit claims that certain Palm products infringe seven NTP patents. All seven of the patents asserted are being re-examined by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and have been rejected by the re-examiners as invalid. Palm also noted that the NTP patents disclose a pager-based email service that has nothing in common with the mobile-computing devices invented by Palm.
  • Power.org Accelerates Power Architecture Technology Adoption
    Power.org(TM), the open collaborative organization that enables, develops and promotes Power Architecture(TM) technology, today announced the availability of the merged instruction set architecture–Power ISA Version 2.03–and the Power Architecture Platform Requirements (PAPR) specification. Power.org also released a consolidated roadmap for processors built on Power Architecture technology.

  • MtekVision Reduces Power, Achieves First-Pass with Magma Software
    Magma(R) Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of semiconductor design software, today announced that MtekVision, Korea’s largest fabless company, has successfully implemented a 3-million-gate Camera Signal Processor (CSP) for mobile applications using Magma’s Blast Fusion(R), Blast Power(TM), Blast Rail(TM) NX and Blast Noise(R). With the Magma software’s integrated low-power and physical design capabilities, MtekVision was able to meet their power, timing, signal integrity and area goals while accelerating the design cycle.

  • SK Telecom Invests in Wavesat
    Wavesat, a leading supplier of WiMAX chipsets and software, announced it has completed a significant round of funding led by SK Telecom, a global leader in providing mobile voice and data services. The financing round, which also included participation from existing investors, will be used to accelerate the introduction of Wavesat’s upcoming UMobile(TM) family of full mobility WiMAX/WiBro solutions for the cellular handset market. This will complement Wavesat’s existing leadership products for the fixed and nomadic (laptop) WiMAX markets, enabling Wavesat to provide best-in-class solutions for each WiMAX segment.
