Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS) and Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) today announced that they have aligned their efforts to produce a common industry standard for low-power design, implementation and verification. The combined effort calls for the Si2 Low Power Coalition to standardize on the Common Power Format (CPF) for a single-file approach to low-power design intent.

- Atmel Debuts Low-Power tinyAVR Microcontrollers with High-Speed Timers
Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML) announced today three new 20-pin tinyAVR(R) Flash microcontroller devices with high-speed timers targeting battery chargers, sensor end-points and motor control applications. The devices are pin-compatible, differing only in the size of their Flash, EEPROM and SRAM memories. The ATtiny261 has 2 Kbytes of self-programmable Flash memory, whereas the ATtiny461 and ATtiny861 have 4 Kbytes and 8 Kbytes, respectively. All devices deliver 20 MIPS throughput when running at 20 MHz.
- Microchip Announces PIC Microcontrollers for Intelligent Motor Control
Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced the PIC18F1330 and PIC18F1230 8-bit microcontrollers for basic, open-loop and low-end closed-loop motor control that is not algorithmically intensive.
