Nokia Flexible LCD 4G Concept Phone

Posted by Ken Cheung in Wireless on Thursday, September 28, 2006

I was reading the September edition of "The Semiconductor Monthly Update Report" by Future Horizon when I stumbled across the winning entry for the Nokia 4G Design Competition. The concept phone below uses a flexible LCD screen. When the phone is closed, it looks like a typical Bluetooth handset. When you push the button in the middle, the phone opens like a Japanese hand fan.

The concept phone features a scrollable and touch-enabled LCD screen. The phone would only have one hardware button and most features can be accessed from the display. The phone can be used as a picture phone, video conference appliance, or Internet navigation unit. However, don't expect the phone anytime soon. The flexible LCD color touchscreen doesn't exist yet.

The concept phone was designed by Hugo Danti.
