According to an article on Embedded.com, several companies met behind the scenes at DAC to from an alternative to Cadence's Power Forward initiative. The Cadence-backed group consists of AMD, ARM, ATI, Fujitsu, Freescale, NEC and TSMC. The new group includes STMicroelectronics, Philips, Texas Instruments, Nokia, Mentor Graphics, Synopsys and Magma Design Automation. The new group was initiated by TI and Nokia to ensure that any low power standards effort is fully open, nonexclusive, and occurs really fast. Initially, Cadence would not let any other EDA vendor join the Power Forward initiative.
