iPod Sales to Drive NAND Growth

Posted by Ken Cheung in Components, Research on Wednesday, June 21, 2006

According to a new report by Gartner Inc., a market research firm, the industry can expect a shortage of NAND flash memory in the fourth quarter. The shortage will be driven by strong growth in the market for Apple's iPod and other portable media players.

According to an EE Times article, Gartner forecasts that the market for all portable media players will reach 187.7 million units, up from 134.5 million in 2005. NAND flash-based players accounted for 80 percent of the market in 2005.
